Summary and Reflection
Class will begin with a PowerPoint that covers section 8-1: Passive Transport and Osmosis. During the PowerPoint students will be required to take notes (thus mandating participation). Throughout the presentation my TAM partner and I will ask questions to encourage understanding. Approximately every 3 slides we will summarize the major points and a brief video will be shown to help our visual and auditory learners. When the presentation comes to a close students will complete the Passive Transport Summary Worksheet. Over the next 2 days students will be given time to take the Passive Transport and Osmosis Self-Assessment via PowerPoint. This will allow students to gain a better understanding of the material, revisit any topics that they had questions about, review any material they may have forgotten, and self-assess. The combination of speaking, listening, writing, watching, and taking part in a hands-on lab will encourage participation by all.
I learned that as I gain more skill in using PowerPoint the process will becoming much quicker and I will be able to go from using these once per week to several times per week if not more. I learned that it is easier to implement technology than I had previously thought. I especially found, after a few attempts, that adding links to websites were rather easy. I am excited about the possibility of gaining more student attention and involvement in my lessons. I think this will help with many of the attention issues of my students. In addition, the increased ability to provide visual representations and to meet the needs of the students various intelligences is exciting and will hopefully lead to more student success. In summary, I found that this process was not as difficult as I anticipated though I am aware I have a long way to go.
